Single Cyclamen

This is another "scanned" image of a single cyclamen flower. I also scanned in each petal separately along with a bud and leaf and plan to work on a collage using the individual pieces. I've seen this done before and want to give it a go.

Equipment: Epson Perfection V33 Scanner
Nik Software's Viveza and Color Efex Pro

I really like the texture of the petals, and the white against the deep black.

Barbara: Really good stuff. I do like the subtle coloring in the petals a lot. Some of the hot areas need to be toned down some. It is like it is overexposed about 1/2 stop. The lower blown area especially pulls my eye. Not sure how you control this with a scanner but I do think it would be worth revisiting. >=))>

Barbara I love the strong drama of this scan, the composition works beautifully. I love that this is shot from behind as it adds a lot of mystery . The highlights are a minor issue , but over all this is just fantastic !!! :toast:

Barbara:
Fabulous scan. The petals have a nice metallic look. The large patches of highlights are due to the petals pressing on the glass. You could lessen this be reducing the pressure or doing the scan with the scan on its side. Alternatively you could control this at the time of scanning if you use a scanning software such as Vuescan or post process in PS (exposure and or recovery slider).

I like this barb except for the color on the petals.

The visual flow and the drama in this image are great. To me, the colors make a statement about how you created this picture and while they don't look photographic, they do add interest.

Hi everyone and thanks so much for your feedback. I will take note of the "hot" areas as I'm scanning. I would like to try setting up an arrangement and turning the scanner on its side to see what effects I can achieve that way. This process is a lot of trial and error for me, I guess just like it would be if I was using a camera. But I really like the challenge this process presents to me. And your comments have helped me so much to see things that I should see. Don't worry, there will be more posts from me as I work on this process. Thanks again everyone for taking your time to give me feedback.
