Winter Rain

This is posting #1 of my 2012 "Winter Rain" series. The images generated are directly inspired by our Pacilfic Northwest rains and associated cabin fever.
I purchased this rose a few days ago and have been experimenting with lighting to get the mood that I'm after, a very subtle light that softly lets the bloom emerge from the darkened background. I'm not there yet but close.

Larger version available, thanks for stopping!

Craig: Reminds me of some of the dark side we used to see from Pat. This is actually a bit too dark for my tastes but it is a very well crafted image all the way down to the framing. Nicely done.>=))>

I agree with Bill. A selective levels adjustment might bring it up just a bit. But a beautiful job of processing! Like staring into the embers of a dying fire.

Craig:
Getting in touch with your dark side again
I like your creative use of flash with the honeycomb filter; the mood is somber and interesting. Overall, I like the image except for the front portion where the contrast of light and shadow is a little strong; the rear part is very nice. Love to see more of your series.

Hi Craig, a very moody rose you have there ! The only nit I have is it would have been nice to have a bit more focus and detail on the front pedal as it looks a little soft. Lovely shot ! :wavey:

I am by no means an expert, but your image appeals to me very much just the way it is. It's almost like the rose is lit from within. I for one would hang this on my wall!

Very dramatic, Craig! The contrasts work well.
