Bear Creek

This is Bear Creek just before it runs in to the Wisconsin River not far from my home. I made this picture in the morning after a fresh snow. I love snowshoeing along the creek here and heading out to the river, especially after a new snow. One of my favorite places close to home. This area has a wonderful and peaceful feel for me. I think the large version shows this off much better.
Thanks for looking and any thoughts.
5D2, 24-105L, iso 100, f/16 and 1/2 sec. B/W conversion.

You have a great feel for black and white. You've captured the peacefulness of the area well.

This is really, really nice! One of my favorites from you. I might push the white point just a little higher. Mostly on the big foreground trees. looks like maybe you did some burning there? Either way, its a beauty.

Definitely looks like a beautiful place Nick, The snow on the trees is gorgeous and the B&W conversion works well here.

This is really nice, Nick. The composition is very pleasing, and peaceful. I relly like the tones in the water, and the blacks look fine. I'd be careful with pushing the whites too muc, otherwise the snow on the opposite bank will blow out and look harsh. You could selectively work some white areas, as Chris mentioned, but they look fine to me.

Nicely done!

The large version is killer! Pristine and so peaceful. I do agree with Chris on pushing the white point a wee bit. Contrast is perfect on my work monitor.

Very nice, Nick! I agree with Chris' comment. I also kind of feel like the lhs tree is a bit awkward here, i kind of like this better with the lhs cropped. But its very nice overall.

Nick, this is a very impressive composition to me, especially viewing the larger version. The calm reflection just makes the difference for me.

Thanks much for your comments and suggestions. I did a version here with the snow a a little brighter. Not sure if we will be able to tell much difference but I will go ahead and post it and see how it looks. Thanks for your thoughts!
Stan, Not sure I could get myself to do that crop, but as always I value your input and will think about it for awhile. I can see how that could work pretty well I guess. Nick

Truly a peaceful place especially with the snow. I like the processing Nick and I think you picked a good image for B&W. The river adds to that tranquil feel of the image. Love the stillness of the water and the reflection. Great job overall. Love to see this even bigger.
