Peralta evening

This is from the same evening as I shot "Three sisters". It was almost like all of the colors piled up on one side. This was originally a horizontal shot, but decided to crop it because there was a lot of brush and cacti intruding into the bottom and sides. There is really no way to give this view justice, it is so expansive, you just need to see it to believe it. Anyways, comments and critiques appreciated as always.

Canon 7d
Canon 17-40mm @40mm
f/18
1/8 sec
ISO 100
Tripod
3 stop grad ND filter

Cropped from horizontal.

I would have also liked a horizontal shot with this, as one is led to believe it would make the image stronger. But distractions make us change our comps and in this case I think you've done well with it. I think it is really neat the way the cacti fade off into the distance visually. It really gives you an idea of (be it a small one) how expansive it really must have been.

Hi Peter,

I have a similar comp from the same area and I think you did a great job on the foreground. However, the sky looks somewhat over processed and fake to my eye. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback.

Michael, I can see what you mean about the sky. I tried to get it to a point where it wasn't too powering yet still colorful enough to enjoy. I think it's the dense cloud on the right side that might throw it off a bit.

This is a great scene especially that you were able to get above the cactus forest. Love the color and light, but the one bit of darker blue in the sky is just a bit distracting to me. Maybe a little more contrast on the distant mesas would help with depth. Still must have been a wonderful scene to witness. :toast:

Peter, I like how the open area in front between the saguaros allows the eye to enter the scene. The color of the sky does not look right, especially the semicircle at the top edge that seems too purple to me
