ome family time so my visits to the forum were brief and limited .

It took me a few trips to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park to get a den site close enough to the road, and even then it started to rain so I had about 3 minutes to take a few photos of this cute little guy before he ducked underground for cover.

I realise some won't like the shallow DOF and truth be told I could probably have gone to f5.6 or f8 for more, but I like portraits with very shallow DOF

Techs:
Nikon D3s with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
f4.0 @ 1/500 SS @ ISO-640

He's definately very cute  The depth of field suits me just fine, but I also like it really shallow. The even light and general shades of brown make this quite lovely...

Very lovely cub, and the shallow dof works just fine. There is a lot of sharpness where needed, and your interpretation of the image is saying that the rest of the subject isn't as important as the face, which is ok with me.

I do like the expression you caught on the face of the fox. Nice and sharp where it counts. I do wish it was just a tad darker, for me the light tones blend in some with the BG. Thanks for sharing.

This is a solid portrait of a beautiful subject Morkel. I think you made the right choice with going for a shallow DOF as it maximizes BG separation through DOF, which works often well in situations where the subject and the BG colors are kind of similar, and therewith puts all the attention on the face.

A cool image, nicely captured!
If this was mine, I might try to darken the Bg a bit, to make it stand out better.

Very nice BG that compliments the fox. I think the shallow DOF works here!

I like it as posted. Did he offer additional poses and ear positions?

Great light and harmonious colours. Love this little face, and don't mind the shallow DOF at all.

Appreciate the kind feedback, folks...
He didn't give me much after this. It was starting to drizzle and he scuttled into his den, and didn't appear again that day.

I think a higher f stop would not give you the seperation from the BG like you have here,
As the colour palette is so similar :toast:

What a cute one. I like Eyes and eye contact, and pose of the fox. TFS.
