The river near where I live and work here in Seoul has been somewhat taken over by male and female Goosanders (Mergus merganser), a.k.a. Common Merganser in North America, this winter. I've been trying in earnest to get some good close ups, this one being from a latest attempt just this past week.

Canon EOS 60D
Lens: Sigma DG 120-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 APO OS HSM
Focal Length: 400mm
f8.0
Shutter 1/1000
ISO 500
HH

Cropped about 80% :frown:

Comments and constructive criticism is greatly appreciated.

some interesting patterns and colors in the water, and a nice light in the eye, Mark. I do think that this shows the heavy crop, but getting close to ducks can be very difficult, with camo and patience mandatory for any but the tamest.

The large crop definitely shows in the image quality and I think you could use more detail in the whites. The nice patterns in the water add interest to the shot.
