Toadlilies-top view

This is another picture of toadlilies, this time looking straight down. I wrapped black velvet around the bottom stems/leaves/background that I didn't want in the picture. Taken in place in the garden.

Canon Rebel T1i. 90mm macro lens. F/25 for 1 sec. ISO 100.

Carolyn:
This is beautiful. Great to see all three blooms in different stages. The black bg works well here and the leaves provide some contrast in shape and color to the flowers.

Very interesting blooms Carolyn. The criss-cross of leaves in the shot is intriguing. Very pretty.

One of the best Toadlily shots I have seen. Excellent DOF which is always a problem for this flower given its phenomenal shape. No nits from me :toast:

Perfect DOF and placement in the frame, with strong nonlinear leading lines in the green and yellow striped leaves. The black BG really helps bring out the leaves and flowers. Have you thought about stacking? You did well on the detail, but one second is a long time.

Beautifully compsed with vibrant contrasting color. The DOF is perfect too.

What a "wild" picture with the swirling leaves and the dramatic flowers. Great work.

This is very unique, I love it! I love how the green foliage allows your eye to meander through the image and stop at each of the three focal points; and i especially like how each bloom is further along than the others! Wonderful! :toast:

Nicely Done! The colors pop against the black with the blooms esp using both black and leaves for contrast. I tried the same technique with a black velvet cloth...it works great..though a wool fabric would show better too as it does not bounce much white ....so I always bring the polarizer. DOF w/90mm is amazingly narrow, even at F25. Stacking is one approach mentioned for more dof, another is tapping on a 35 or 50 prime, maybe at f8 to f11. Looked at your web...high quality flora throughout...impressed me. I will revisit for inspiration!

Yes here they are. Not only the flowers but also the leaves are splendid in these surprising flowers; at least for me. Excellent Carolyn.
Take care.
