Braeval Wood

Another shot from my recent trip to the trossachs in Scotland. This small woodland is just down the road from Aberfoyle and was on my route to Loch Ard so I stopped and had a little look round.

I don't do many vertical or mono shots, so I would be interested in your thoughts on this one.

Thanks for looking, Gary.

I like it a lot. Reminds me of the forest in the opening scenes in "Gladiator". Always good when a photograph can transport you into a different setting.

I think your toning makes this sing, Gary. I like the comp, and fog and trees always makes for an evocative image. Well done!

This works well for me. Comp is great an the mono look gives this image a great feel.

Gary,

This is wonderful! Fabulous mood and great tonality as already mentioned. The only nit I have would be that I'm undecided about the hanging branches in the ULC. Very minor and certainly doesn't distract from the mood or impact, but wanted to mention it anyway. Well seen and beautifully captured.

Gary, I really like this! I love the tone and mood you have in this scene. The vert lines work very nice with the diagonal line of the ground. Nice work. :toast:

The vertical perspective and mono works very well for this scene. Trying to decide if I would prefer a simple B&W versus the blue tone, but this might be splitting hairs. Either way it is a great shot.

I think this is very well done. I like the contrasting lines of the trees as they meet the diagonal line of the ground. The fog provides a great atmosphere. The monotone color also works very well with this image. Nice work!

The diagonal and the strong verticals make for a graphic with nice tension. Light certainly helps this too. My only thought is that the toning seems overdone.

This has a very haunting quality. It's a type of comp that's of course been done before, but the very strong feel and mood of the image is what sets it apart. Feels like Middle Earth -- I'm half expecting an elf to appear amongst the trunks.

I'm digging this. The vertical angle does a lot for it, making it a very nicely composed image. The fog and mono add a very dramatic mood.

This works well Gary especially with the blue tones. The diagonal of the hill adds to the strong comp. Very ethereal image.

Love the lines of those trees, Gary, the fog, and the diminishing detail and definition in the trees as the eye moves back. Really a fantastic image. The monotone works extraordinarily well.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'm glad you like it.

Lon and Chris, the branches in the ULC were an issue for me but I went with it anyway.

Cheers, Gary.

Gary, your strong composition works extemely well for me, especially together with the monochromatic presentation that emphasizes the graphic quality at its best in my opinion. I especially appreciate the delightful separation of the trunks. A convincing capture of the atmosphere to me.

The slope creates a nice diagonal line and the fog softens the bg. :toast:
