Botanical garden scene

This photo from a botanical garden in Maine was taken "on the fly" as we did a quick walk-through of this garden before a rainstorm. I liked the moss/lichen on the branches and how it contrasted with the orange. The photo was taken in the fall so I wasn't sure if the orange were leaves or flower petals; don't know ID.

Canon Rebel T1i. 146mm at F/5 for 1/160 sec. ISO 1000. Handheld, natural lighting.

Carolyn, I like the comp with the branches on the diagonal and then the leaves forming a triangle. Well seen and captured. The BG is perfect for the branch to pop in the very nice light.

The comp is really nice and the shape/texture contrast between the moss and the leaves (petals) is great. Strangely, I find the top branch touching the frame slightly distracting, but the bottom branch touching the side seems fine. I could see a tiny crop from the top to hide the little bits of moss that are partly clipped by the frame.

A little more space all around would be nice but this is tastefully done. Great light illuminating the leaves.

I like this. I like comps of three of just about anything, and the backlit orange leaves are striking against the contrasting green BG.

I agree with the suggestion to go a little wider on the framing, but this really pops! Great texture in the lichen covered branches and the color contrast is fantastic.

Nice lighting in this, the leaves seem to glow! The moss-covered branches add interest to the scene.

Hi Carolyn :wavey: The quality of light here is amazing. and how it affects the sublime color and detail.... well composed, but more space around would have made it even better

Beautiful , the colours are wonderful and love the COM. my only nit is it would have been nice to have a little more detail and sharpness in the larger of the three leaves in the ULC of the image. But it really was beautifully handled for a handheld shot. Lovely work Carolyn ! :toast:

Lovely comp and colors, and the background is what I would call perfect for this. I do think the comp would be even better with a little more room on the right. Not sure if there was any empty space on top, but it there was none, I tiny crop (or clone) of that top bit of lichen might improve the top edge. But those are just small nits -- still a beautiful image.

Carolyn:
Very nice light! Like how the subjects just glow in the dark green bg.
