Canon 1D Mark IV, ISO 400, 252mm, f6.3, 1/500th, 1800mm macro lens, 1.4 extender - hand held.

Taken while the tide was out - I am not sure of the exact location but I was about 2 hours north of Keyport WA working my way north along coast / beaches; what a great way to spend the day !

Choice of lenses - I have been experimenting lately with the 180mm macro and a 1.4 extender. I love the resolution and when the DOF is correct this combo can create some awesome resolution. It's all about the focal plane and getting a subject to sit-still..... Anyone have any wisdom to share on this lens combo? Thanks in advance for the information

Overall a nice shot of this gull. Nice sharpness and good detail in the feathers. It seems a little tight on top to me. Do you know what kind of gull this is?

I think this is a Western Gull, but I don't have any experience with the northern race of the species. Hopefully Jim DeWitt or Nate will comment with their more extensive experience with the species.

I like the setting very much. I'd go a little lighter (the histogram is clipped for the shadows).

Cool gull image. Nice detail in the feathers. I like the various colors in the surf. Wish there was some light in the eye.

Some very nice image quality on the large version with good detail. I have never used a macro lens but whatever you are doing seems to be working fine to me. Nice job in getting this.
