Palmetto Awakening
by Kurt Budliger
Here's one from a recent trip to Belize. I passed this palmetto hammock several times during my stay in Placencia. In the morning, about 45 minutes after sunrise the diffuse backlight from the rising sun made this scene come alive. The palmetto fronds take on an otherworldly glow in this type of light. I chose a wide-angle composition to accentuate the repetition of the splayed palmetto fronds reaching for the sun. I also used a small aperture to create the sun-star, juxtaposed, yet complimenting the fingers of light created by the palmettos. As always thanks for taking a peek.
