Bush Robin
by Rob Drummond
Orange-flanked Bush Robin, Thailand
This bird was found on Doi Inthanon, Thailand's highest mountain. There's a boardwalk at the very top through a 'primeval' moss forest. I was walking along it late in the evening with the idea of coming back early the next morning before the crowds arrive. Being a birder, I responded as well as I could to a frog-like croak as I was walking around. This bloke jumped up as if scolded and gave me the evil eye. It seemed strange behaviour as the birds only winter down there. I took about 20 shots and it disappeared. Went back to the car to get a tape and back it came but only perched on the railing of the boardwalk, so I left it alone.

Great stuff !

I really like this shot. Absent your description of the scolding and evil eye he gave you, he looks very dainty. The contrast between the behavior you describe and my visceral reaction to the photo makes it even more interesting. I like the color, the stance and the perch. Good job. Thank you for sharing this photo and the story.

Nice pose, excellent detail, and complimentary, natural perch.
Congrats on the fine WP!

1. The perfect clean shot with nice light, lovely bg and a pretty perch.
2. I love forest birds, and I had a tough time making a picture of this guy in the North-east hills of India last month :)
I have been enjoying your bird pictures Rob, and I know what it takes to make pictures of forest-birds, hence appreciate it more :)
