Stud Horse Point in AZ. This images illustrates my most recent post to the Outdoor Photographer Magazine blog called Business vs. Creativity. In the post I discuss the challenges of making images that audiences will respond to vs. staying true to one's own creative vision.

Thanks for looking!

ET phone home? Seriously, I really like the image. The tension of the balanced rock, the depth of the sky, the detail of the landscape are all top notch.

Excellent perspective taking advantage of the sky, Ian. The twilight sky goes well with the formation, and your title brings that home. I don't recall ever seeing a photo of this formation, or maybe your image just stands out. I also enjoyed your well written blog. :toast:

Great structural strength; dynamism and emotion for the unbalanced slab of rock. Beautiful picture.
Take care.

This is cool with the chosen title and the "rock formation" resembling an "astronomical radio telescope" Well done.

Great clouds and I like the subtle light here. I remember you had a b/w version of this scene that I enjoyed as well, but this is very calming. Great title too!

Very realistic looking image Ian and the sky looks great. The light looks very natural too. Solid perspective. That place is a pain in the rear end to find...

Very nice, Ian and a great example how distortion can be used to enhance a composition instead of being a problem that has to be removed.

I don't know your vision.. But if it was to make me respond to this, then you succeeded!
Very well composed Ian, good atmosphere.

A great find and well composed, Ian. This is area of the Southwest is one of my
favorite parts of the country to photograph. The sky is very supportive.

I haven't read the article, but one does not need to compromise one for the other. Good work is good work. Minimalism sells well. Simpler scenes with a strong central color theme. Also, there is a lot to be said about not being a typical self centered "artist." It's not all about us. I believe it to be a great privilege to SERVE OTHERS by considering our market as we shoot.

Nice shot as always.
