Spring Whites

My neighbor's weeping cherry and bridal wreath spirea are starting to bloom so picked a few stems to see how they would scan. White is definitely a difficult color to work with, but I just keep plugging away. I will try another scan but remove the spirea to see how that might look.

Scanner: Epson Photo V33 scanner
Post Processing: Nik Software's Viveza and Photoshop and a lot of patience to "clone" out the dust specks.

Appreciate your comments and feedback. Happy Spring to All!

The "scanners" among us do say that white is hard to scan but this looks pretty good to me. On my monitor there appears to be little if any burn out. However, I would wish the comp could have some more "personality". One comp suggestion would be pull the bottom of stems toward the middle to make it look like the flowers were in a container (that is out of sight). Just a thought.

I'm certainly no expert in this arena so anything I say please take with a grain of diluted salt. I assume this was a test scan from your description. The whites don't look blown but there appears to be alot of yellow in the blooms that are further from the glass. That might be my IPAD screen though.

Carolyn, I have actually scanned another composition of the weeping cherry and tied the stems together with a piece of green grass. It does make for a better composition and will post it after my wait time. I was really just wanting to see how whites would look and I'm actually very happy with these whites, and yes, the composition could be most interesting, but just wait. Bob, this was not a test scan as I have been scanning for a while now, I just meant it as a test of white colors. Stay tuned for more. Gotta love scanner art. At least I do. Thanks for your comments. They are appreciated very much.

I think the comp suggestions By Carolyn would make this happen Barbara.

Sorry Barbara, I didn't mean my comment as a test scan of scanning but rather a test scan for the whites.

Barbara:
I also had the impression that white is difficult to work with on the scan until I see Pat Sampson's White Primrose, Asti and Twightlight. Certainly worth perservering with the white and look forward to seeing your next scan.
