Mountain Zebra Launch

I can't recall posting this image here on NPN (it's not in my gallery either). This was captured during a trip in April 2011 to the Mountain Zebra National Park in South Africa.

As we stopped next to this Cape Mountain Zebra, it launched into a full-blown gallop and this is the best frame I got as it moved to our left with the vehicle facing to the right.

I wish the Black Wildebeest were not in the frame at the back (especially not intersecting with the zebra).

Techs:
Canon 40D with 70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM @ 170mm
f5.6 @ 1/400 SS @ ISO-400

Really cool image, Morkel! I really like the comp, and the zebra's position is just right. It looks like there is some nice detail in the image, and it's nice to have a catchlight in the eye, too. I do think I agree with you about the wildebeest in the background, though. Still a great image!

I really like the action in this photo, as well as the sharpness and color. The wildbeest in the BG do not bother me, in fact help to establish the environment. Thanks for posting.

Hi Morkel,

You caught the action nicely here - and technically quite strong as well. I think the position of the tail helps convey the action well (possibly even better than the legs do, given their position). Kinda split on the wildebeest - I think the ones in the top right corner add a nice element of context, but like you, wish the ones directly above the head weren't there.

Cheers...
