Eye of the Berg

This is a close-up shot of the iceberg that I posted a photo of recently titled "Amazing Iceberg". I used the same EF24-70mm f/2.8L zoom lens as with the former image, but set at 70mm. I was going for a more abstract image and also wanted to capture more of the detail and variations of blues and violets in the ice. I also was trying to capture the window effect of the hole in the iceberg, since looking through it you can catch a glimpse of a small section of the landscape somewhere on the other side. However, it also reminds me of an eye, hence the title.

I welcome any feedback/comments/suggestions. Thanks!

I used a Canon EOS 5D MarkII camera with an EF 24-70mm f/2.8L Zoom Lens, 70mm Focal Length at f/11, ISO 100

This makes a fantastic abstract. It looks almost like the barrel of a frozen wave. I think your chosen composition works great, and it's something I hoped you were going to post based on your previous wider version. I do wish there was a bit more room to the left, but since I've seen the wider version, I realize that there really isn't much more room over there. I do find the darker area on bottom edge near the left to be a bit distracting since it breaks up all that wonderful blue ice. I think it's important not to crop anything off the bottom, but I would consider gently cloning that area. There is plenty of ice detail nearby to work from.

Great Leo, the original post was interesting but this takes it to another level in my opinion. :toast:

Very cool title and image, Leo. You succeded wonderfully in your quest. My only suggestion would be to clone or crop out the sliver of dark grey on the bottom; it breaks up the flow of the wonderful blue tones of the iceberg. :toast:

I'm not into cloning, so I was going to suggest cropping the bottom gray as well. I really like this concept in general. Nice find.

Neat concept, I'd also suggest cropping the sliver of gray off the bottom. While this is nice as posted I think it would have been more impactful if there was some sunrise/sunset colors through that window, instead of the dull grays..just my honest opinion.

Love the range of blue tones in the ice as well as its sculptural qualities. Great composition too. Nicely done.

I like this on better than your previous and I too would clone out bottom or crop from right and bottom.

I resonate with the blue here! Beautiful. Like the abstract quality too.

I'd be tempted to "warp" out the bit of water on the bottom and the white in the upper left corner so that they do not potentially distract the eye.

Makes a great AVATAR! :toast:

Fantastic abstract Leo. I agree with removing the gray sliver at the bottom via crop. The eye is very obvious to me. Wonderful image.

Lovely. :toast:
The light and dark blues make an abstract pattern that's mesmerizing.
What do you think about slightly lightening the dark landscape that shows up? Just a thought, because it's lovely like it is.

Thanks very much everyone for your complements, comments and suggestions. I appreciate every single one. It looks like its almost unanimous that the green/gray horizontal area on the bottom right might be distracting and could use some cropping or cloning out. You've definitely given me something to think about, and I'm curious now to see how the image will look without it. I'm gong to do some playing with that and post the results. Thanks again for the feedback guys!

OK, I decided to experiment with the "Eye of the Berg" image. Many of you guys suggested cropping or cloning out the bottom right green/gray area because it distracted from the rest of the image so, I reworked it once by cropping, and then reworked another version with cloning. I really liked the one where I removed that area with cloning. Here is that version. What does everyone think? As always, I welcome your thoughts/feedback. Thanks!
