White Rock Bay

Antelope Island, Great Salt Lake
Most of the development of this was done in-camera as I used the JPEG.
I did some curves adjustments of the dark tones on the island mountain, desaturated a spot on the shore at the bottom and a little sharpening.
C&C please
Canon 60D
EFS 15-85 @ 85 mm
ISO 100
f11
1/160 second
Thanks for any suggestions.

The light is good here, 'cept maybe the clouds look a bit magenta/grayish. Could see trying to match them closer to the snow on the mountain. I'm also wondering about going more pano with this and cropping the foreground. JPEG jaggies are pretty bad in the foreground and cropping also simplifies the scene somewhat.

I like the green water and the towering snow capped mountains. This image has potential, but the in-camera JPG processing is holding it back. Have you ever considered shooting in raw? You would gain a ton of flexibility when processing your images.

Thanks guys. I appreciate to suggestions. I am going back to re-process it in RAW. I just got the 60D and didn't even stop to consider that CS4 wouldn't open my RAW images until I sat down at the computer to work on this. I have the Canon software of course, but miss a couple of the tools that I have been used to that appear to be missing when working on the RAW images.
The clouds result in a little early morning color but should be easy to adjust. They are however pretty flat and featureless.

Chad,

I like Tony's pano suggestion as I agree the foreground shore isn't really adding much to the overall scene. To be honest, the composition is a little awkward in that the foreground mountain kinda blocks the grander looking range in the bg. You might see if you can reduce the appearance of haze in the bg by playing with the contrast back there perhaps? It's a nice enough scene, but I don't think one of your better images.

So, in the end, if it were mine - I think cropping the bottom for a pano look. Then I'd actually reduce the contrast of the foreground mountain (open it up a little) while increasing the contrast selective in far, bg range. Just some thoughts.

I'll fall right in line with the above Chad, great suggestions there. Catching this in real early or late light might reduce the haze of the distant mountains too.
