New Horizon

Life has been quite hectic lately organizing a house purchase and preparing to move so my NPN participation has been quite low.

However, I just thought I'd post up this image that is the result of some processing tutorials I had recently via skype with awesome photographer Mark Metternich. I never thought I could juice so much out of my RAW conversions, get seamless blends, and enhance detail so well! Mark has really opened up a lot of creative options in my processing workflow, so if you need a little help with your post-production techniques, Mark can help!
Click here for more information at Mark's website.

This image is a blend two images, D80, Sigma 10-20mm @10mm, f/11.
Fingal Head, Queensland.

Cheers!

I really like how the foreground emerges from black and the ocean waves and the horizon light. Excellent composition!
However, the blues in the sky and the clouds within appear quite 'overdeveloped' to my eye. Seems to appear mostly with the brighter reaches up there.

Excellent blend and the tonal harmony is just as good. Great color and mood as well. I noticed the same area John is talking about, but this doesn't need much more work to make a fantastic print. :toast:

David, the texture of the FG is fantastic. However, the sky does not work for me. The is quite some unevenness (for lack of a better term) in the sky and halos around the clouds.

Hi David. Thanks for making mention.

As problematic as this file was I think you did a killer job here! :toast:

Not a deal breaker, but I do see an argument for maybe a little less mid tone contrast in the clouds and also maybe a touch of sharpening to them. Other than that I think it looks great! Keep on rockin mate!

Hi David, I love the foreground rocks here. The light, detail and texture looks awesome! I also really like the colors in this. Only thing I'm not quite sure about is the look in the upper part of the clouds, but still this is a beautiful and dramatic image. :toast:

An amazing location! I have yet to experience sea photography, but it looks exhilarating to say the least. I love the comp, colors, etc, although the shadows at the bottom appear a bit flat? TFS!

I think the foreground light/exposure and detail is AWESOME! Colors in the sky are nice as well. Agree that the highlites/lighter clouds need a little tweaking.

While probably not true to life, the sky that is, I like your artistic flair here David. I am not bothered about it at all. I especially like the highlights on the foreground and mid ground rocks.

Textures and upward angle of the rocks, beauty of a sky, and excellent work on the processing. Love the deep, dark, moody feel. :toast:

Great job with the rocks, love the darkness and the overall comp. As has been mentioned (more than a few times), I think you could go back and do a little work on the sky. A really nice image though!

Nice textures throughout. I'm feeling like the sky textures here are too overcooked for my taste but that's all my critique. Processing is a journey.

That subtle light on the foreground rocks is flat out amazing, bringing out the textures and forms of these rocks. Wonderful sky as well. Exquisite image.
