Yellow-crowned Imm

I was just about to call it quits when this immature Yellow-crowned Night Heron jumped out from the marsh grass and landed on the beach trail right in from of me. I was able to squeeze off two shots before he decided to retreat to cover. I couldn't get him completely in frame, so I cropped to about 53%FF to show off his long neck . Worked with several comp options and this almost square comp-which I usually shy away from- seemed to be the best option from the captured image.

That's just why I am so reluctant to leave a place, even when it's been a poor shooting day!! You never know what will pop up and present a great image!

Love this - wide-eyed innocence in (still) a stealthy hunter.
Excellent detail andf nice BG.

A very nice profile shot of this YCNH Chuck. Very nice detail and the BG adds IMO.
