Lake In The Clouds II: Exposed

This is the second in my series of Black and Whites from a wet, cloudy day on an Adirondack Lake.

Life is hard for trees trying to grow on a tiny, rocky island exposed to Adirondack winters.

Canon 5DII
Canon 24-105
1/100 sec. @ f/13; ISO 320
Hand-held from canoe
Converted to B&W in CS5

Please see the larger version.

Another nice b/w image Wayne. Solid composition and processing. I really like the leaning trees on the rock island. Looks like those trees on the left are just barely hanging on!

Certainly has that feel of the north woods. You know you're in trouble on a lonely island when the trees can't even make it. Nice job, Wayne.

Great subject and it lends itself well to the b&w treatment. Very nice. I can almost feel the dampness.

It's funny, as soon as I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was Adirondacks. I grew up in NY and spent many summers at Blue Mountain lake and the Fulton chain lakes..awesome place!

I love the b/w treatment here and I love how this image shows the ruggedness of the area. Nice capture!

Very nicely done Wayne. B&W was a good choice - very moody.

I like this Wayne, and I like the b/w look here as well. Yes, it looks like those island trees have a hard life. Looks just like it could be northern WI, MN and Upper MI. to me.

Nice black and white! Looking at the trees on the island, I get a sense of their demise as if the trees in the water, is the fate of the leaning trees and the ones behind are next in line after that, and so on and so forth. Great capture and thanks for sharing!!

This is a really stunning scene. Good decision to go B&W. With such a light sky, you might consider darkening the corners a tad a la Ansel. But that's really a personal preference.

It's fun to go through a whole page of NPN posts and quickly get to see the series of images the photographers have posted the past week. This is nice and goes well with the later post, though it doesn't quite have the Zen-like quality of the more recent one.
