Am saving the gas $ for storm chasing, so i stayed local on my days off this week, and took a quick trip up to Colorado Springs. Took this shot from Silver Cascade at sunrise this morning, a cold front blew through this morning and created some interesting conditions. By this time tomorrow there will probably be some snow up there, but unfortunately ill be at work so ill miss it

maybe ill head up for sunset...

26 commentsThe foreground feels somewhat disconnected from the rest of the image. Not your fault. Just the angle and way the falls disappear. Luckily the light on the water holds them together for me. It does not really bother me that much as I'm enjoying seeing different comps and styles. Seen too many copy cat images on this site lately, no personal offense to the posters, beautiful work, processing, and what not. But it's a big world...why are so many people taking photos in the same spots?
Guess it's just refreshing to see original ideas and comps once in a while.
Keep em coming!
Everything comes together here so well, especially with that bright area in the center, including the backlit tree. The only thing I can't make up my mind about is that green sprig in the FG, but it doesn't seem to be bothering me.
The sun did its work on the water, for sure.
The sequence of horizontal lines of the foreground cliff and clouds interrupted by the oblique lines of the mountains is eye-catching.
Foreground color and distant sky complement each other.
The highlighted green of the plant in the middle brings the eye back to the cliff and associated color.
I wonder is the color in the cliff slanted mountain [nearly the same as the foreground cliff] could be brought out slightly with contrast? Or maybe its better with it be dark?
The contrast of light and dark is the cherry-on-top.
As usual, great stuff.

Thanks folks--someone on RMNP noticed a slight halo on the rhs of the clouds, which ill take care of; i should have done that first before posting here, but i was anxious to get back on the gallery here, its been a while...
Wayne--i purposely included the green in front. I knew when shooting it that some folks would find it distracting, but it felt right to me, to tie together the tree in back--with the falls in between.
