Quoddy Head by Moonlight

West Quoddy Head Lighthouse stands watch on a moonlit night at the easternmost point in the US in Downeast Maine. You can just see the Southwest Head Light shining off in the distance at the tip of Grand Manan Island. Taken on the second night of the full moon about 45 minutes after moonrise.
Canon 5DII, EF17-40 @ 17mm, 16min f8 ISO 200.
I adjusted the WB towards the blue end a bit and made it a tad dark to enhance the feeling of night time. During the 16 minute exposure, I kept covering the lens with my hand whenever the light came on so it wouldn't get completely washed out.

Lovely image Bill. With the extra long exposure, it almost looks like an afternoon meteor shower
Interesting to learn how you adapted to the changing conditions, great technique.
Well done! :toast:

Bill:
Excellent image and really like the star trails from the long exposure. Before reading how you made the image, I was wondering why the lighthouse was not blown out - so thanks for the explanation - very neat trick. :toast:

I love Quoddy Head light and I really like this image, great job with the light itself and making sure it didn't blow out and I really like the star trails too.
