The Purple Gallinule. Skimming through thick waters in the Everglades by way of airboat, we stopped to take a look at this amazing specimen. What a beautiful bird!

Gorgeous colors, Marco. Detail looks excellent at this scale.

I have never seen this species before, so thanks for sharing. Must have been quite a sight in person as well. nice colors, like how you managed a good head shot through a tough terrain. The white on the head looks like it might be a bit hot and wish there was a timmy bit more room on the bottom.

Thanks Dennis and Kurt for the feedback! Yes, this gal was not very easy to shoot. She was very, very shy but at the same time, she had to keep an eye on her little one which unfortunately, was even tougher to capture. I just cannot believe this species is from the same family as the chicken...?!

I think they are one of the most lovely birds. I photographed several at Brazos Bend State Park last week. Nice catch with the Gallinule hiding in the grass. I would love to see a larger version. If this were mine I would have eliminated some of the grass at the top of the image by selecting a square crop. Also would be nice to have the feet included or space for those virtual feet. Thanks for sharing this magnificent bird.

Hi Marco,
I like this view through the reeds of this beauty. I would crop a little bit from the top and if you have more room at the bottom I would include it there. By the way, this isn't in the chicken family, it's in the rail family. :toast:

Nice shot in habitat, Marco. Very nice work on those difficult blacks and the blue sheen. I'd like a little bit more at the bottom for the "virtual" feet, even if it means cropping a bit at the top. While the swamp rats is South Florida call these "swamp chickens," they are actually rails, like Coots and Moorhens.
