Rookery at St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park
Raw, LR3, CS5, rotated a bit and very small crop from the bottom, probably 98% of FF

I like the white bird against the dark green vegetation.

My main question is how do the whites look, but comments, opinions and suggestions on that or anything else would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

The whites look fine to me, as does the image overall. I like the white against the green. Light looks soft and pleasing.

What marks separate a young Snowy Egret from a young Great Egret - I don't have any experience with them at this age.

Thanks, Richard.

I don't know the differences between Snowy Egrets and Great Egrets at this age. I just know what nest this one and its two siblings belong to. All the Great Egrets are either up very high in trees or are across the water in a tree. Only the Snowy Egrets are in trees closer to the boardwalk.

This one actually had a fourth sibling, much smaller, and it lived for so long, and I actually saw the mother feeding it once, that I really hoped it was going to make it, but yesterday, very sadly to me, it was no longer there. I wish I didn't have its image in my brain.

A cute shot and nice techs, Barbara. Perhaps a bit cramped on the left, but that's a matter of taste. I agree w ith your message below, but remember that these birds have lots of kids because so many of them do end up elsewhere in the food chain before they are adults.

IMHO the whites are just fine, some detail, no really washed out areas. Also, the sharpness is good as well as the overall composition. Thanks for sharing.

I like the appearance of the whites on my monitor Barbara. Legs looks slightly unsharp perhaps, maybe a bit more sharpening. Nice tranquil mood to this image.

Nice exposure Barbara. Whites look good given the light. I would give the legs a feet a bit more sharpening if this were mine.

Barbara, I'm surprised that I've never seen the Snowy Egret Fledgling on the Gulf Coast of Texas. It looks as if the whites could be a bit brighter, and I think I'm seeing a slight color cast. Did you start out by setting your black and white point? I like the composition, and it's nice and sharp. I'm heading back to the High Island rookery again this week and I'll be looking for these. :toast:
