Iris

A portrait of an Iris in pretty good shape. This is a stack of over 15 photos - there is no other way to cover the DOF needed with some justice to the background.

ND300s, AFD 200mm F/4 Micronikkor, F/6.3 (for all the shots used for stacking), 1/80 Sec, ISO200, Early morning light and of course Tripod.

Thanks a lot for your comments on Iris Fold and do let me know if this one appeals to you or not.

PS : I do see some artifacts around the petals - I worked this three times for the same reason, and cannot see it in Photoshop. But when I upload to the hosting site, it is seen. I don't know why that happens. To complicate matters further, I don't see it when viewing on Macbook Pro but I see it on my 24 inch iMac

This is very nice Ram. I assume since you used a tripod you changed the focus with the focus ring on the lens rather than moving the camera? I want to try this again because I have never been able to get results that look this nice.

Looks like beautiful detail and exposure throughout, Ram. I'm not seeing the artifact you mention on my screen (or maybe I'm not sufficiently observant).

Lovely image.

Ram:
I am not seeing the artefact on my screen. I do notice differences between my iMac and my work comp. May have to do with which browser you are using too.

The iris is beautiful! Love the yellow and dark blue in the petals. The white may be close or blown so a slight tweak here may be?

At this size, this looks very good. Excellent isolation against the nice BG. On close examination, I do see very slight artifacts around the edges of the petals on my 27" imac.

Lovely job with this hard to photograph flower, Ram. Great job with the stacking. I can't see the artifacts even with my reading glasses on. :toast:

I love the white bordered purple petals Ram. The DOF and BG is also very nice. For me, the whites appear just a touch blown out.

This is beautiful, Ram! Great details throughout the flower with a nice blurred background due to all the stacking. When I look closely I do notice artifacts around the large left purple petal and all around the white petals. However, I have a high graphics upgrade on my Dell laptop so I do probably notice more things than "normal". Irregardless, it's a beauty!

Hi Ram :wavey: With my week eyes, i dont discuss artifacts  To me, it's technically perfect, Except the white petals dont show enough detail...... maybe it's my eyes?

Beautiful iris photo. Ram I wounder how you have managed these nice details in the white section without damaging the perfect blue-yellow part. Very well done-great work. :toast:

It's a lovely portrait and the whites are especially great. I see some blurring around some of the white petals that look to me like the optical limit that stacking cannot overcome. I've seen it called blooming, because an oof area in front has a larger blur circle so it occupies more space than when it's sharp. The only way that I know to minimize this is to use a smaller aperture, but that defeats the background blurring. You can reduce it's visibility with some very careful cloning (I use the 200 and 400% views in PS) but it's almost impossible to eliminate completely when you have overlapped sharp areas with one in front of an other.
