This photo was taken at the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine, FL. My husband and I was able to spend a week there in early May. It was so overwhelming that we took so many photographs of anything that moved. I have started picking out several that I really like and need your feedback. There was a lot of vegitation that you had to compensate for, but I really like the heron against the green leaves. Any and all C & C's greatly appreciated!

Canon EOS 50D
f/11
Exposure time 1/1500 sec
ISO 640
Exposure bias was at -1 step
Focal length 150mm (Canon Zoom Lens EF 100-400 1:4.5-5.6 L IS)

Hi, Carlette. :) I love your composition here. You have great detail in the whites. I might try to lighten or brighten the darkest greens a bit, although in the larger version you can definitely see detail in the darkest parts of the vegetation that you can't see in the smaller version.

I like it a lot Carlette, the darkness of the foliage helps to set off the bird. :toast:

I really like the breeding plumage on this. I do think the overall image is a bit underexposed. I think you are probably going for that effect, but if it were mine, I would still brighten the overall image a bit. I think you can pull off the same effect and make the bird poop even more.

The dark green vegetation contrasts very effectively with the white plumes. The things guys will do for a date.

I like Kurt's comment re: not having to explain a really good joke!

This image is, to my eye, a simply awesome example of a perfect capture that is...as is...a reasonable candidate for entry in any contest or show with high expectation of finishing in the ribbons! I don't use "awesome" freely. I am awestruck by this image in all evaluable realms: impact, technical accomplishment, and composition.

But...you asked for C&C...so...the third leafy up and two to the left of the lower right corner could stand a bit of desaturation....or not....

I do, however, take exception to Kurt's urging that an effort should be made to "...make the bird poop even more." and am doubtful that a suggestion of increased poopogenous activity would somehow positively influence image impact. I am, however, struck by the heron's having located the perfect natural spotlight and stage set for its performance...it really "pops"....Oh...now I see...a typo....Kurt....never mind....

This is just a great image; i wish I'd taken it, and that it were on my wall!
