Red Tail Lizard Lunch

We were photographing Skimmers at Bolsa Chica, Huntington Beach, CA when this Red Tail Hawk flew just over head and landed near us. It repeatedly hopped from one area to another, all within a short distance from us. He continued to look under bushes and finally came up with this lizard. When we left the reserve and were walking across the bridge, the same hawk had caught a pigeon and was the target for dozens of Terns and one aggressive Black Neck Stilt who dive bombed him in waves.

Terrific! The swetting here is great, I love the bird nestled in the veg, the pose, and the great look at the lizard.

The prey really makes this image in my opinion. Good sharpness and focus on the eye is evident in the larger view. Well done!!!
