Monument Valley Morning

I realize I haven't done a heck of a lot of shooting for myself this year...really need to change that. In the meantime, I continue to go back through my files and find something I haven't had the chance to process. Need to change that, too!

This one is from a trip I made with my friend, Mel where we travelled through Arizona and Utah. The night before was very stormy allowing the wind and rain to wipe clear any sign of man the next morning. The color and texture of the sand was so beautiful. It was a great morning and a great trip!

Comments and critiques welcome.

I like this a lot! The colors are quite vibrant, and the contrasts here are very nice. Also, I take note of good sunbursts (mine are ugly  ). Can't quite decide if I like the tumble weed... Glad you had an enjoyable trip out there, and that you remembered to edit this!

A classic view. The sun star is a great addition.

Awesome and great conditions. I like the sunstar and the light in the foreground. Not sure about the tumble weed too and the little piece of another butte in the URC.

Love the sunstar and the placement of the monoliths. The warm reds of the foreground and the tumbleweeds are a nice addition to the comp. Well done.

Jean,

Excellent take away from Monument valley. Nice job showcasing the sand, texture and detail up front. Interesting choice to have the sage/bush in the far corner, but it actually works pretty well. The only comment though might be that it makes the image a little right-heavy. No biggie though, there are some nice patterns in the sand on the left to balance things out a bit.

Great take on a classic location. The partial mitten on the right is a bit distracting, I assume you wanted to keep the sage bush so you had to keep that as well. However, I would think about a square crop and really focus the attention on the subject.

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments and feedback. I do agree the partial mitten on the right is a bit of a distraction and also thought cutting off part of the tumbleweed might make it look funky, but here is a cropped version which I think works well anyway. I also added a bit more contrast to the sand. Thanks again for the critiques.

I really like everything about this one -- the sunstar, the light the mood -- except for the foreground bush/tumbleweed. I wish it wasn't touching the side of the frame. Come to think of it, I think you could crop out some of the bottom foreground and actually strengthen the image -- as well as getting rid of most of that bush, the remaining of which could be easily cloned out.

Interesting to be able to pull this type of light off so well in an image. I like it. The foreground sand makes a good foundation.
