Little Fella

My dad and I went to Beauvais Lake yesterday in search of baby ducks/gosselings. We quickly spotted a TON of geese with their little gosselings. It was a pretty windy and cold day, so the babies were snuggling up to their moms. Most of them went under her wings, but when that wasn't possible they would snuggle up as close to her as they could. This little guy has 4 or 5 siblings and was the first to get warm! I quickly took the picture, and it was good that I did because the others butted in and this guy had to position himself differently.

I really like how it's just his head poking out of the feathers. I also like this adorable pose he has.

Thank you for looking!

Beautiful, Jenaya. I really like the composition and the detail in the gosling is fantastic. Just a bit more dof might have been nice, but it's hard to be sure without seeing the results.

Jenaya: This is very high on the cute factor scale! I really like the eye level view you got. I wish there was a crop that could eliminate the neck (at least that's what I think it is) in the ULC. Still an adorable image. Nicely done!

What a cute photo Jenaya. I'm glad you were able to get this shot before the other chicks crowded in!

Sweet little goose-let! How about trying a crop tighter around the gosling, to eliminate mom's neck and the grass?
Fine as is, but that might be even better with the closer crop, (if you have the pixels).

I'm a little late to the party in commenting on this one, Jenaya, but it deserves my time nonetheless! Wow did you capture a great moment here. Excellent decisions on comp and low angle, and I personally think the DOF is perfect here...a smaller aperture would have resulted in too many sharp feathers on the mom IMO, and a larger aperture might have made her too OOF and compromised the beak-to-top-of-head (and cheek) sharpness. Really hard to suggest possible improvements here, though the suggestions to crop even tighter are intriguing...I'm just thinking that you lose the clear understanding of the context that you have with this comp. For some reason, I even like the OOF grass in the foreground.

REALLY cute, excellent image.
