Light from the heavens

My living room was filled with a glow that was extraordinary last Wednesday. It compelled me to go outside and look. This was the evening of the wrath of God hailstorm we got on this end of town and parts east. Obviously I ran for my camera upon seeing the clouds building and glowing like this.

Thanks to Tony K's actions to help tame this beast of an exposure.

Comments and critiques always welcome, and thanks for looking,

Morris

I'm not necessarily a big fan of 'cloudscapes' in general, but this palette of colors and light along with the diagonal flow is very pleasing to the eye. Fine capture and 'development' here, Morris!

Impressive textures and light. Stirs the imagination a bit, that's for sure.

Impressive clouds! I like the light alot, and the way the dark clouds frame this looks really good to me. I would not want to fly in to that with a small plane...well, any plane actually. Excellent comp with this formation too! Very nice, Morris.

This looks very good to me. It's tough to get a good shot of just clouds, but it looks like you pulled it off.

Excellent, there is so much detail in the texture of the clouds and so much energy in all the directional "wisps" that I can almost see the clouds build right here on my monitor. Very nicely done

Amazing cloud structure Morris with wonderful mix of color. Not your everyday cloud........ well captured. For some reason Judy Collin's "Both Sides Now" comes to mind.

Very nice light from the heavens indeed, but there is obviously a war going on up there. Ominously well done. :toast:

Thanks everyone.

Tony, there is no way I could have brought out all that is in this image with my processing before using your Luminosity Masks! (And, no I am not getting anything for giving credit where it is due.)

Stan, let me know when and where you are going!!

Awesome cloudscape Morris. Sure looks like a wicked storm brewing... hope the hail didn't cause too much damage. Fantastic light and nice processing!

Thanks, David. The insurance companies will be paying out a large sum from this storm. It was 30 miles long and didn't move for almost 3 hours. My wife's car is peppered and we'll be fortunate if they total it, because I'm not sure they can fix that many dings. My car only has a couple and my daughter's car the same. The side of our apartment building has damage to the window frames and trim. Colorado has more hail volume than anywhere in the world the newspeople said recently. Hailstones are called the Colorado gemstone around here. Because of the money they generate in business.

Fine shot of very dramatic clouds. The corner to corner flow and the colors create a fine 3D sense.

Morris,

What a great cloudscape! Great drama and having the dark clouds for the added contrast makes for a dynamic image.

I'm gonna be a lone dissenter though regarding the color/WB. I have no doubt depending on conditions, time of day etc., that the color is reflected pretty accurately here (and you were there, not me... ;-) ) But, and this is just me, the yellow/warm WB of the main cloud makes me think more like it's an old slide from a half century ago that's yellow and faded.... even the blue has more of a yellow component. Don't get me wrong, it's a great capture, just making an observation about how I see the color in this one.
