Almost looks like a photomatix tonemap with the haloing and coppery look...other than that, this is really interesting. Cool to see the ice breaking up. Looks like a beautiful area.

A lovely shot! The broken thin sheets of ice tell a story, which is always an essential attribute of a nature photo, IMO.

Helmut,
Excellent, I like this quite a lot. Great use of the near/far wide angle composition. also, here's another example of being able to get an effective image in otherwise somewhat hard light. I agree this might be even more effective as a b&w.
Along the lines of Nicolaus' comment, is there some haloing going on between the mountains and sky? Not sure if that's just the way the sky is, or if it's a halo effect.

Very neat photo. I love the shadows under the floating ice.

Awesome location and shot, if you could fix the halos it would be great!

Excellent lead-in, Helmut. What a fantastic place and on my to-visit-list for a long time now. I agree about the haloing. If you blended exposures you should take more care of the masks. Another reason could be that you cranked up one of the sliders in Lightroom (3 and below) too much.

Wonderful mix of textures and tones in this. Processing looks fine - wouldn't change a thing. Looks like your timing was perfect with all of those ice floaters.

The ice is a nice element to tie things together here. Pretty unique view to catch this transition at this point in time.

Beautifully composed! I love the broken ice foreground, how it leads into the scene. Wonderful place for sure.

A convincing and consistent composition to me, Helmut. I appreciate the cooler tones in the distance together with the warming ones in the foreground. Really interesting and favorable lighting conditions in my opinion.

Fantastic image Helmut! The floating ice and the bg mountains and sky really look great. I thought the fg rock is a bit high contrast and bright, but a wonderful image all the same.
