First species interaction I've ever managed to shoot. Blue dasher attacking a Dot-tailed Whiteface. Canon 7D, canon 70-300 lens. f7.1,1/1600sec,ISO500. Bright sun.

Roger:
At it again this year  I like seeing all your DF in flight shots last year and this one is no exception. Good tack sharpness in both the stationary and flying one. :toast: The stationary DF is a little dark, a slight fill here would be lovely. Have you used flash for this kind of shots?

Sadly I have not had the time to shoot DF this year. Went the the Wetland Park once this summer.

Really good in flight action against the exceptionally nice BG, Roger. You managed to get good detail on both subject. Not easy to do when one is flying! Excellent capture.

Thanks, guys. Gary, congrats on becoming a Moderator. I was wondering why I haven't been seeing any DF from you. I have stopped using flash for these as I found it didn't help much & added weight (I shoot hand held). The Dot-tail is hard to shoot as it is almost completely black & featureless. I lightened it a bit, but it didn't look realistic.

Great comp, details, BG, and POV of the action Roger.
Difficult shooting in the bright sun because of the hard light/shadow, but you managed it well.
It's sort of a catch-22. You need the bright sunlight to shoot fast enough, but if the subject isn't turned the right way you're kinda SOL
Well done :toast:
BTW - Did you use flash? Many times I will use it full sun to fill in those shadows. Of course, it limits me to single shot mode..

Great job of catching the action and having it isolated from the background.
