Red-bellied Woodpecker at Weekie Wachee Reserve, Florida

1/2500 at f8 and ISO640
Canon 500mm with 1.4 TC
Canon 7D

I like the different look of this woodpecker in that he is not stuck to the side of a tree

I tried getting these birds there a few months ago with no luck. Saw them, but they were pretty much noncooperative. The Manatees were a lot easier. Nice one, Scott. I'll be back. :toast:

Very nice detail in the woodpecker's head in the larger image. I can't figure out what is causing the feathers on the back to have such a strong blue cast, though.

Really nice pose and ruffled feathers. Nice eye and perch. I also see the blue cast - maybe your attempots at saturizing the blue sky added a blue cast to the feathers. A lighter blue sky might solve the problem.
Otherwise, you'll need to lasso the bird and selectively de-sat the blues and cyans.
Nice image worth a little more work.

Wonderful image Scott. Not often do we get a nice clear shot like this of a woodpecker.
