Joseph's Coat

Joseph's Coat rose produces large, vibrant flowers in a kaleidoscope of yellow, red and orange colors. This one's the climbing variety and very hardy. They seem do do fairly well here in Central Texas.
F/11, 1/20th, ISO 320, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 around 7:30am. Mostly cloudy & breezy. I used a "plamp" to secure the rose. I also used the live view function and waited to shutter when the breeze would momentarily subside. And with the "live view" magnified slightly, one can see any bit of movement which helps..

Good tip on using magnified live view to assess subject movement. Certainly worked here as the rose is very sharp notwithstanding the 1/20, so good job. Beautiful rose capture, Howard.

Beautiful colors in this rose. Your DOF and POV makes it feel like one is taking a "forbidden" peek through the petals to the center. However, I think maybe more color/brightness in the petals with the center being darker (?) may help elevate this image to be more eye-catching IMO. Those breezy days can be frustrating. . .

Howard - This is nice..Love the layers and the strong red in the outer most petal edge. I too secure the flowers with a plamp on windy days which we have had in a large measure this season.

The composition is different, which is always refreshing but I am wondering if you captured another composition showing the same large outer petal on the left.

Interesting and very appealing composition, Howard, with excellent rendering of the petal textures. Love the tantalising effect of the oof centre !!

Really like the layering of colors and focal planes.
