Secret Catskill Lake

This was taken on Sunday morning when clouds were going in and out. I've visited this spot a number of times, morning and late in the day. This time there were some unusual flowers, and I wanted to include this one to add interest to the shot. I don't know what the flower is. It starts out as a bunch of tiny balls that then open up. It looks much nicer before they open. Taken with my Nikon D90, on the tripod of course.

There is nothing like visiting a special lake IMO! I love the peace and tranquility you have captured in this photo, Nancy. Nice ferns in the foreground; don't know what the other plant is although I have seen them frequently. Nice comp and elements to this photo; too bad the weather didn't cooperate more though.

A very peaceful scene. Upstate NY is a beautiful place. The flower is a bit to centered for my taste.

Looks very peaceful, wish I was there. The flower looks a lot like common milkweed, except for the dark veins in the leaves, so maybe it's a relative. I'm with Richard about the flower placement. My suggestion would be to take a few steps to the right. This would move the flower to the left and let it act as a balance for the bright area of the sky where the trees meet the mountain. This would create some lower left to upper right eye movement.

I find the bright sky a bit hard to look at. For me, the interesting elements are the ferns and the water.
