Framed Elephant

Sticking with the elephants of Mana Pools - how about this big guy? He provided so much enjoyment and photographic bliss...this is the LEAST of it. I will unravel more of it later!

Here we were backtracking as we were on foot and he was kind-of noticing us and coming in our general direction. He was still very relaxed, and we snapped a few frames from between the massive trees of this forest.

The light was awesome.

Techs:
Nikon D3s with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
f5.6 @ 1/400 SS @ ISO-560

Now that's a natural frame worthy of this giant. Excellent exposure! Well done. :toast:

This is an outstanding image. The light is sweet, the composition is great, the focus is right on and the dof is great. I like every thing about it.

thanks so much for the very kind compliments, folks

Jenaya - of course I capture 'bad images'...I do it all too often for my own liking...I'm just not posting them here haha
You will flinch if you know how many frames of a "once-in-a-lifetime" sighting I screwed up on this trip all because I was so excited I didn't give a second thought about adjusting my settings...

I love the natural framing but I wish the sky was not so hot. I think you could make some great alternate crops.

Thanks so much guys
for me the trees in Mana Pools are part of the package and they are so iconic I almost treated them like animals in their own right when shooting
