Taken at Talking Waters Garden, a 50 acre man-made wetlands in Albany, Oregon. Just opened this year. Has numerous ponds, waterfalls, two miles of trail, and should be a great place locally to see birds.

The background is a bit unfortunate as it similar to the bird's coloring.

Canon 7D
100-400 mm at 400 mm
ISO 100
1/400@7.1
On tripod

Processed in ACR, PS5

Thanks for looking. Critiques and comments welcomed.

Nice pose from the sandpiper - I like the open beak and visible tongue. I agree about the background but I'd have taken this shot if I had the chance.

A nice shot of a Spotty doing what Spotties do. The wood chips aren't ideal but the color scheme is good.

I like the pose and open beak, but I do find myself wishing the bird popped more. Not much you can do about it other than lying flat and finding an angle below the bird to shoot up, but that isn't always feasible. Still a nice capture.

Nice detail on the bird and very accomodating to call while you were shooting. The upside of the BG is that it really demonstrates the bird's natural camoflage pattern.
