I made this capture on my way to a different location to photograph black skimmers. This was one of my first images of the morning, and it turned out to be the best capture of the day!Bolsa Chica wetlands 06-27-2012.

Outstanding shot. Beautiful, clear reflection on the smooth water surface. The catchlight in the eye breaks up the black of the head and adds to the photo. Would be nice to view in large.

Nice light and position. A larger version would have helped to judge sharpness and noise.

Lovely and elegant. I wish the right wing tip was in focus, but it's a minor nit on a very strong image.

Excellent image! Gorgeous light, and great angle.
Hard to tell with only a small image, but there is some kind of processing blip by the lower left reflected wing, and a number of dust spots throughout - all easily corrected in this nice image.

Love the pose and reflection. Also like the action,. I do wish I could see a large version so I can tell what sort of detail you retained in the blacks though. Makes it hard to critique if that is what you are looking for.

Eric,
Timing is key in Nature Photography and you nailed this one. Besides all the obvious reasons this is a good capture, what stands out to me is the water trail and the position of the tail feathers. This guy was working it.
