Leaves

A nice grouping of devil's club leaves that were all close to being in the same plane. Found along a trail south of Anchorage, Alaska a few years ago. Would appreciate any and all comments of this image.
4x5, 120mm, warm polarizer. M1 scan, Tony Kuyper's luminosity masks.

Have attached a larger size image.

Thanks.

A beautiful shot of the leaves Vance. Great light and color... such a nice mix of green and yellow. I also like your comp and framing. My only observation would be to darken the bits of grass under the leaves at the rh bottom corner and middle bottom edge to keep those leaves popping down there, but it's only a very minor thing. Great shot.

Simple and effective... This works very well and would no doubt make an equally appealing black and white.

Good detail in the leaves and I like the way the gaps are black rather than showing a messy scene there. Nice repeating patterns and as mentioned good light.

The large version is very nice, Vance. I like how the leaves collectively cover almost the entire scene, and yet have an individual look to each leaf as well. Processing looks good too, especially with the over-powering amount of green here.

Beautiful green Vance. I bet those unfamiliar with Devil's club don't realize how big these leaves are! I agree with the thought of darkening the grass in the lrc.

Vance, the plainness of your composition just makes the difference for me and helps me to concentrate on the delicate patterns. I enjoy the amazing details especially in the larger version.

Lovely patter. I like the variation in color and tone that concentrates interest towards the center of the frame. Don't know why but this reminds me of Ansel Adams, 'cept in color.

Wonderful light and contrast Vance. Excellent tonal range. I too can image this would make an equally pleasing B&W.

Really well grouped leaves you found, Vance. In your chosen comp, they make a wonderful pattern.

Very nice comp and light, Vance. Reminds me of another favorite of yours http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/ic.cgi?a=vp&pr=179358&CGISESSID=0bdc02950f0f60e1ffbcc8c911324a4a&u=27684). The shapes and lines are a pleasure.

Pass me the tomatos and I will make me a very fine salad. Very lovely simple green shot that is instantly appealing. I expect you'll tell me the leaves are poisonous now.

What I like about this, besides it being from Alaska, are the different sizes of leaves, the lines of the vein patterns, the slightly different hues of green. Wonderful scene well captured.

Vance, just simple and beautiful. Your processing I think is fabulous - the color is natural and vibrant but not overstated. The large version is just outstanding - with great details and texture. Excellent work as always!

The color and luminosity of these leaves is striking. I find the sense of reality here to be very refreshing.
