Three Sister's + Repost

Hello everyone!

Been a long time since I posted anything, thats because I haven't shot anything in a while. Finally got to go out and shoot today with Peter Coskun to catch some monsoon action that was rolling into town. Was hoping for a spectacular sunset, but this is what I ended up getting. This is the three sisters formation near the Peralta trailhead in the Superstition mountains.

Canon 5D II w/ 17-40mm
f/22
1/25sec
ISO 50

All comments and critique are appreciated.
Thanks!

Wow, this is neat... Even with the blown area of sky it works really well... super comp..

I like the comp Chikku. When I was out there I could never find a cloud in that sky. The road to that trail head is a bit of a challenge if you don't have a high clearance vehicle but I loved the hike. The blown out area is a bit distracting to me. Perhaps a bracketed shot and blend would have worked here.

Hi Chikku. I like the comp, and the color is nice and natural. A nice change from all the red and yellow often presented in our southwest scenes. I tend to agree about the blown highlights in the sky but other than that it looks good.

Chikku, nice lines of clouds coming over the peak and good sunstar. It must have been a warm hike. Have you tried a B&W version of this?

Magnificent comp and dramatic lighting! I too pine for something in the blown area; it keeps stealing my eye from the rest of this fantastic image.

You definitely took advantage of these clouds as they passed by, I wish the sky on the left wasn't blown out, but that doesn't bother me as much as it usually would. The one thing I noticed with the comp was that the saguaro on the left cuts into the mountain and is a bit distracting for me. Other than that, you probably got some much better stuff than I did. Still gotta wait for some epic storms which hopefully will be coming soon.

Pretty nice stuff you found here. The amount of blown sky kinda bugs me. At 50iso you will lose a lot of DR from your camera. Shoot at 100 when possible. Also getting some separation between the mtn and right cactus would make it a bit stronger. Glad you got back out there, keep it up! :)

Incredible comp. Wish the sky wasn't quite that bright. Any other exposures that could be blended in?

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I must have missed that file when I went through the shots. Here is a repost without the blown out area.

Color repost much better at addressing the blown out sky. Are those cholla babies on the ground? So cute.

This is very nice! I like the color repost and the sky does look much better in that one.

I think your color repost works well Chikku but I like the B&W version even better.

Very nice. I like the foreground and interesting sky. I really like the B&W repost - very dramatic! There is some haloing around the far left "sister" in the reposts you could probably work on, but this is good stuff!
