Black Chinned Hummer

This is a shot from this morning in my backyard.

I set up my high speed hummingbird gear. 3 flashes for the hummer, 1 for the background. The flower is a Texas Red Yucca which is a native flower for hummingbirds in my part of the world.

Canon 50D, ISO 200, 1/125 @ f/14 (Shutter speed is really controlled by the duration of the flashes running at 1/16 power).
100-400 @ 220mm

Nectar placed in the flower to attract the hummingbirds.

Larger Version included.

This is a beauty - tack-sharp throughout, great flower and perfect pose.
Doesn't get any better than this for multi-flash hummer images!

Lovely! I love the way you had the flower enter the frame & the hummingbird continues the curve so nicely!

It certainly is a beauty, Keith. Sharp, beautiful lighting, both flower and bird very attractive, interesting subjects. For this comp, I like how my eye starts on the lhs with the flower and leads into the bird. I find myself wishing to see both flower and bird more closely. You could consider cropping a bit more off the bottom and sides. However, I must say that the image as posted is so attractive.
