D800E, 300 2.6, 25mm extension tube. I took this today in the rain. I was the only photographer at Kenilworth Gardens in DC. That was me...the old guy holding an umbrella over my gear :-)

This is a real beauty - wonderful lines and texture in the lotus bloom, and nicely-blurred foliage behind. The centering works well here.
Lovely!

....lol...."the old guy holding an umbrella over my gear." That is so descriptive of ME this past weekend. I like the centering ...appropriate for this subject....and beautiful glurred b/g. My personal preference...perhaps fault...is to want a little less brightness in those whites...only bit-nit ....the rest is terrific. I am still waiting for B&H to send me my D800E ...which I ordered on opening day....back in Feb....gash....how much longer...I am having camera envy.

Thanks Ken. I believe B&H fills all NPS member orders first. I am not a member but I got mine locally when a member backed out I suppose worried about the Nikon warnings...which I have never experienced. The whites don't come closed to the right side of the histogram. I was expecting comments about the background being too heavy but I appreciate all comments. I have learned a lot about how folks react to my pics in just the few weeks I have been a member.

wonderful portrait Bunn. Great detail, POF and light. Well seen, composed and presented in my opinion.

Bunn:
The lotus looks pristine and the bg grass is fine (but does not reflect the true environment of lotus). I have viewed this with my 26"Mac at home and the white looks rather bright but it looks okay with another generic monitor. One of the characteristic of lotus is the very strong reflectivity/luminous in the petals and I do not see this here - the color in the petals is rather muted probably due to the low ambient light. Having said the above, I like the POV with just the pod visible and rimmed by the anthers and the rain drops.

Gary, this image was taken at Kenilworth Gardens in DC. It is a strait shot. What attracted me was the tall weed like plants surrounding this Lotus as I thought it was unique and interesting. I will take another look at the Lotus itself to see if I can improve it. As I mentioned before the highlights are not even close to the right side of the histogram. Thanks for the comments.

I have looked at both images, and the former looks fine to me. I prefer it over this one.
