Swan Surprise

Swan Lake Flats in Yellowstone is a great place to photograph both sunrises and sunsets. Earlier in the day I passed this by to photograph Hayden Valley. Thunderheads were building on the horizon close to sunset and after thinking and waiting I knew the sun was going to get blocked. Packed up quick and headed for Swan Lake in a hurry, about a half hour away. After running to find a spot and standing in water I was able to get about 6 images and then it was all gone.

As always thanks for taking a look. Any critique, opinion or anything else you would like to add would be much appreciated.

Gorgeous sweeping lines of light and color Dean. The reflection looks a little brighter than the sky but that's minor. in looking at the overall beauty you captured here.

Well put together. Minor nit of brightness of sky v. water noted.

I think that your 'rushed' composition and the scenery in general match the beauty of the light you captured here.

Beautiful light and color, Dean. I also like the tranquil mood of this image.

Always great to have a back up plan . . . and enough time to execute it. Very nice light and contrast. Sky and reflection feel a bit inverted brightness-wise. I know that's somewhat standard now, but it feels a bit obvious in this image with the darker surrounding grasses.

Amazing for rushing around trying to find a comp. Even when I have something well scouted I feel like I'm rushing around like a chicken without a head sometimes, especially when it's going off. I love that cloud, looks like an angel or fairy flying. Great stuff!

Really beautiful colors, and you did well with your comp to be in such a hurry. What a moment to experience!

This looks very much like a sunset I witnessed last weekend at the same spot. Nice work as always, Dean. We will have to get together one of these days soon..
