Fish River Canyon Window

Dug this one up from our 2009 hike through the Fish River Canyon in Namibia. This was taken right at the start of the hiking trail where you begin a steep descent to the canyon floor.

It was a rare-for-winter overcast morning with slight drizzling rain from time to time.

This was still early days for me in terms of landscape photography, so I basically just shot on-the-go...but I do hope there are more undiscovered shots like this in those archives.

You'll want to view the larger file as opposed to this one!

Techs:
f11 @ 1/160 SS @ ISO-200
handheld, single exposure double RAW processed for dynamic range

Morkel, That is an awesome looking place! The large version looks great and I like the colors in this, and you had a wonderful sky. I think you did very well on this, and a nice one to go back and find!

The light is handled very well here. The scene doesn't "wow" me, though I do like how the foreground frames the more distant canyon.

Very nice! I like the "window" effect of the foreground rocks and how they frame the distant river and it's canyon. The depth and colors are great also.

Mining the archives ey? I quite like this scene. The fg rocks and grasses are very nice, and I like the fg 'V' shape opening up to the scene below. The fg and bg is quite tonally similar, which tends to lose some distinction between the two areas, but the 'openness' of the vista is well portrayed nonetheless.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments, guys. I would love to return here in better light and now being better prepared to "work the scenes"
