Orton Hills

Still playing with the mud and seeing what colors come out. This used the Orton effect among other things and then texture was added back afterwards.

Would, as always, be interested in your thoughts.

5D2, 28-300, f/16, 0.5 sec, ISO 100, four focus-blended images.

Traveling at the moment and uploaded this from the laptop. Hope the colors look right.

I don't know whether the color looks "right" but it certainly looks good. The colors seem a little less saturated than what I'm used to seeing from you but that's not a bad thing. Gorgeous image, Tony.

I like the composition and the colors, this works very well for me. I have returned from a (photo)trip to the US (photos will follow). I know what soft indirect light, long exposure and provia can do for colors of rock, so this does not look unbelieveble to me, whether its perfectly accurate does not matter!
I am not so fond of the soft ortonized processing, but I am on a bad monitor right now, I need to review this on ,y better screen at home.

More subdued than your recent shot, but I prefer this. Intense colors, but looks as though taken under cloudy skies. Would enjoy a bigger version of this. A colorful maze. A touch of contrast might make it pop a bit, but fine as is. :toast:

I am always amazed by how much color you can squeeze out of the rock.

Fits your style Tony. Not terribly sure about the orton stuff, but I've always had mixed feelings about that, even though I dabbled in it once or twice a couple years ago. It's subtle here, and not terribly apparent. There is a time and place for all PP work, it comes down to the photographer in my opinion. Go with what feels good.

I do have to say though, only you could make a rainbow in the mud. ;] That's a compliment...just to clarify.

An amazing look however obtained in the overall process. For me the composition with the multitude of fissures just really adds to the complete palette of colors. Nice work as always, Tony.....

While your color play is an eye grabber, what I really like are the subtleties of the comp and how it flows.

I like that you can see the erosion lines directly vs a side view and I like that the color scheme seems a little more subtle and not overpowering.

Another awesome shot with your typically amazing color separation. The general lines flowing TR to BL is quite pleasing as well. I don't think the laptop monitor affected you much :). Nice one.

Tony, you are one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to finding a scene that others might pass by and making it a real work of art. You have mastered the skills that few will ever achieve, and it is a pleasure to see your name on posts that pop up. I hope you never get tired of posting online!
This image is fricken magical, to state it so eloquently
