Broad Tailed Hummer

Sorry to keep blasting you with more hummingbirds, but it is the season to photograph them here.

This time a male broad tailed hummer. Love to get the right angle and light on the gorget to show just how beautiful it is.

Same as my previous hummingbird posts. 3 flashes on the hummer, 1 on the background.

Canon 5D Mark III
100-400 @ 400mm
1/200 @ f/14 (shutter speed is really a function of the flashes with this type of photography)
ISO 400

Larger version included to see much more detail.

Hello Keith

Sweet Shot of this little Beauty.

Seems Very Bright, Maybe too Bright ? If it was my Image, I think I would Globally Toned down a little to bring detail back. The Flowers, especially on Top of Branch seem to have a few Hot Spots!.

Thanks for sharing

Nice lighting and frozen detail. No problem at all with the bird, but the OOF flower and leaf(?) at the left edge are a small detraction. I agree they look a little washed out as well.

A nice example of how it can be done, as I struggle to get decent hummingbird shots this hot summer. Like the colors, sharpness and action you caught. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice hummer Keith. The larger version certainly provides plenty of detail and very vibrant colors. You have a terrific background and the light on the gorget is beautiful. Unlike some I actually like a little bit of wing blur and you have just enough to keep this from becoming static. Super image for sure.
I do have to say that I think I may actually prefer your previous post. It was so unusual and different and you've inspired me to actually try to duplicate your mistake on that image. I think it may be harder than you think. It's certainly not something you see everyday which is why I think I like it so much.

Quite lovely, and for some reason square crops often appeal to me, so I especially like the comp. The little guy really posed perfectly for you, too. :toast:
