This is a captive tiger. Out on a frozen pond with a dusting of snow on the ground and some brush in behind.

I've played around with several border treatments and this style was influenced by an artist I met at a photo workshop several years back. The intent is to make it feel as if the viewer and subject could interact.

Created in Photoshop with 4 layers - 2 layers of the original photo, one for the tiger and one for the background (so saturation and warmth could be controlled for both elements), a 3rd layer for the border (with transparency applied) and finally the white 'stroke'. finished off with some masks on the white line and border to 'let the tiger out'

Original photo: EOS-40D, 70-200mm lens @85mm, ISO 250, 1/3200 at f/5.0 +1/3EV

Thanks for looking!

A very intimate tiger shot. I like the work you did with the framing. In fact, I flagged your shot so I can go back and try something like this myself. Thanks for sharing the info. :wavey:

Karen,
I like this very much and thanks for the 'How Too' info. It has a 3D effect. Also a nice original capture of the Tiger. :toast:

Nice work Karen. A friend asked me to create a label for his home brew with his dog's paws hanging out of a oval rope but since I'm just getting my feet wet regarding the more graphic art applications in PS it was just beyond my abilities at the time.
I like the photo and the treatments you applied to it. :toast:

The intensity of the stare is wonderful. The window treatment really brings out the tiger. Well done.

Karen, I am not much into photo art, more because I don't have the skills, but I really like this tiger image! Thanks for sharing. :jump:
