A Running Dog

You know the location by now...
Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe...
Lying on my stomach in a sandy riverbed...
Tried some slow shutter speed panning here...

I became a father for the 2nd time last Friday, hence my silence!

I kept the incline here as it really was an incline (notice the riverbed edge in the background), and I believe diagonals add some dynamic to images if used properly.

Techs:
Nikon D3s with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II + 1.4xTC @ 700mm
f8.0 @ 1/60 SS @ ISO-1400
Low light at sunset

Big congrats Morkel! :toast: I agree with the diagonal, keep it! IMO this is a very well executed panning shot, with plenty of detail in the animals and the BG and FG enough and the paws enough blurred to indicate motion. Very nicely done.

Hello Morkel

Sweet Image, Capturing the Movement has separated this image from still & static. Sharp where it matters. Nice Effect!!

PS... Daddy .... Congrats!!

Thanks for sharing.

Nice sense of motion in this Morkel. Is it really running? I get a sense of more like lopping along. African Wild Dog? The incline makes perfect sense and does help define the habitat. Congrats on the new addition to the family.

Congrats on the new arrival, Morkel! You haven't mentioned whether 'it' is a boy or a girl, though. About the image, I think you have got the panning spot on, and yet retained the sharpness on the dog's face.

Interesting panning shot with good detail where it counts. I like the color of the wild dog in relation the the background colors to make it really stand out more. Excellent shot

Congrats on the new arrival, way to go.

First of all...Congratulations on the baby Morkel!
Second....really nice shot. I also like the diagonal look. BTW..I love these types of shots and still have been trying to get a Coyote here to cooperate, but they always run away from me so I end up getting the rear end and that just doesn't work...
