Been going through some old files again this afternoon, and did some more reprocessing like on the image you see here. This little guy just simply loved his rock, and I have loads of images from him/her hugging the hell out of it ;-) Really getting that wildelife itch again, especially with the newly updated Canon 7d!!! Hopefully I'll have some new material sometime this year ;-)

What is this - some kind of 'I love rocks' week, or what? First, Brad Hill posts an image of two bears hugging rocks, and now this!
About the image: Would prefer a little more room on top, a little less in the foreground (although the green grass and brown rock are too good to crop out!), and a lot less sharpening.

Nice shot of the bear in an amusing position. Good detail in the bears coat. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jorne, I can understand the 'wildlife itch' as you call it. This is really a cool image; the bear seems so in love with this rock! I like the processing, but have two small 'nits'. The first is the tightness of the framing on top and the second is merely a sharpening issue with the FG long grasses looking over sharpened on these small jpegs.

Hi again, Jorne! Another striking capture...love the behavior you've caught here and the overall feel/mood to the image. I guess I have to agree with the comments about this being a little tight on top as presented, but otherwise I very much like your decisions in respect to composition.

Great expression and good angle to tell the story as well. Nicely done!

I think it's really cool how his colours match the rock! Awesome detail in the grizzlies fur. I think it would be nice if there was a bit more room up top, but minor nit in a great image!

Love it Jorne! I also wish for a bit more room a trop. If you decide to add some canvas, it would be fairly simple in PS with content aware and then fine tuning the details with the clone tool. I really think it is worth spending the extra time on this shot. For me, the grasses only look a bit too sharpened on the small version....and I am guessing because of compressed version, because the large version looks absolutely fine to me.

thank you all for the comments, I added some canvas to the top as suggested! Compression still isn't flatering on this one due to all the little details.

Hi Jorne,

Funny! This one looked like it just collapsed in place and sacked right out!

I like the DoF in this image - for me all the right parts (including the foreground!) are in sharp focus yet you still separated the bear nicely from the background - so well done. The extra space on top in the re-post works better me for than the original.

I checked this one on a couple of different monitors and it does look to be pretty significantly over-sharpened to my eye. But that's something easily fixed (if you choose to) and you have a very good capture here to work with.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Brad

Thanks for the insight Brad. I think the oversharpening might also be a result of Tk's tripple play action I used here, I provides lots of detail, but it's easy to overdo on wildlife images. :wavey:

Nice compositional shape, Jorne. The additional space at top is a significant improvement. I agree with toning down the sharpening a bit.
