Impressive shot that captures well the bird's concentration and elegance. I am astonished at the spread wings. The bird's focus on the water suggests that the bird is hunting, yet one would think that the large wings would spook the fish. I don't see these birds up here, the closest perhaps would be a GBH. Nicely done.

You found a reddish?! Excellent - I've only seen them in Florida. They are a very rare visitor to S Cal.
Great pose, and the water drops are a nice addition. Fine detail, colour, and eye.

Roger, interestingly, the wing-spread is common with many egrets - it produces some shade on the water so the egret can more easily see the prey. Seems very effective!

Hey Erik,
Nice capture. Bud and I were there the other day and there were 4 different reddish chasing each other around. You got the classic usual pose with one hunting. Nice detail Erik. Should be more showing up in the next few weeks. Last year I think there were 7 of them at BC. Sorry I missed you last weekend. Shot with Patrick on Friday a week ago when I texted you and it was slow except for a couple of reddish that actually came down by the pier so you didn't miss much. See you soon. Super post.
